Abstract

Comics in history teaching on the example of the 1100th anniversary of the coronation of king Tomislav solves the motivational crisis of education with a multimodal approach. It analyses the historical context of compulsory education (Ratio Educationis 1774, Law 1874), theoretical frameworks (dual coding, multimedia learning) and empirical evidence on the effects of comics. It presents didactic preparation and implementation at the 2025 History fair, where students created comics about king Tomislav from fragmentary sources, thus achieving higher cognitive levels and high motivation. It suggests further research with tests and digital tools.
