Sažetak

Seed sector in the Republic of Croatia has a long tradition in the creation and recognition of new varieties and hybrids, seed production, and certification of high-quality seed for the domestic needs and the third‐country markets (OECD Seed schemes). Since the very beginning of modern agriculture, our seed industry has played a significant role in domestic agricultural production, and the availability of domestically affordable and high-quality seeds, with excellent agronomic properties, ensures food security in plant species, for which we have developed domestic selection. In the 2016–25 period, compared to the average, there was an increase in the number of varieties in the recognition process (state variety trials) by 42 varieties or hybrids, or +22.95%. Seed production in the Republic of Croatia is stable and records continuous growth in seed production in the observed period; moreover, compared to the average, the increase in seed production amounts to 3,184.58 ha, or +15.98%. There were some fluctuations in the certified seed quantities, but, compared to the average in the observed
period, the certified seed quantities were higher by 3,511 t, or by +5.19%. The paper will present an overview of the situation in the seed sector of the Republic of Croatia in the 2016–25 period, or in the area of recognition, production, and certified seed quantities in the national authorized body.
