Sažetak
Aim: This paper aims to describe the life and work of Mihaela Terzić, who between the two wars and in the immediate post-war period, was extremely active in the group of nurses who at that time sought to ensure the development and public recognition of a new profession in our region.
Methods: The work is based on the analysis of documents stored in the Croatian State Archives and the State Archives in Zagreb. The work was supplemented by family memories, documents in private possession, articles by Mihaela Terzić published in the Journal of the Graduate Nursing Association / Journal of Nurses, and photographs from Mihaela Terzić's album stored in the Collection for Nursing History at CNA.
Results: Mihaela Terzić and Margareta Denich are the first civilian nurses to start working at the Clinic for Infectious Diseases "Dr. Fran Mihaljević". She worked at the School for Assistant Nurses in Zagreb, the Josipovac Children's Home, and the Home for Mothers and Infants within the Public Health Center in Osijek. As a head nurse, she works at the Central District Hospital in Osijek, and then at the Children's Rehabilitation Center in Selce. She continues to work at the School of Public Health and the Youth Clinic in Zagreb. She was a lecturer at the College of Nursing of the Faculty of Medicine and a postgraduate course organized by the School of Public Health. The exact period when she worked at the Public Health Council of the People's Republic of Croatia has not been determined.
She spent a year training at the University Children's Clinic of the General Hospital in Vienna and the University Hospital in London. As a World Health Organization scholarship holder, she spent three months in Finland, Sweden, and Denmark. She was elected president of the Association of Graduate Nurses of the People's Republic of Croatia in 1953. She was awarded the Florence Nightingale Medal in 1977.
Conclusion: Regardless of the fact that official documents do not track part of her work after the 1950s, it is possible to conclude that Mihaela Terzić left a visible contribution to the development of nursing in our country, investing her rich experience gained through work in health, social, and educational institutions, and the national professional association.
