Sažetak
The international scientific-professional conference “Development of Medieval and Early Modern Communes of Istria and Kvarner”, held on December 11–12, 2025, at the State Archives in Rijeka, brought together experts in the fields of archival studies, legal history, art, and conservation to discuss the legal, institutional, and social organization of communal communities along the eastern Adriatic coast. The conference emphasized the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to communes as the foundation of local governance, legal autonomy, and institutional organization. Presentations addressed the historical development of communes, the analysis of statutory sources and Glagolitic documents, conservation and restoration practices, as well as the digitization and valorization of archival materials and cultural heritage monuments. The discussions and presented papers deepened the understanding of the processes shaping local self-government and opened new directions for future research and the valorization of archival holdings.
