Abstract
Purpose. The aim of this paper is to present the artistic contributions of pianist Pavica Gvozdić (1937–2023) and to explore her legacy, which was donated to the Library of the
Academy of Music, University of Zagreb, by her son, Petar Vujačić, in January 2025. Approach/methodology/design. In May 2025, the processing of the legacy within the
integrated library system ZaKi was completed. By decision of the Piano Department of the Academy of Music, this legacy became part of the Library of Svetislav Stančić, who
was the professor of Pavica Gvozdić and the founder of the Zagreb Piano School. To better understand the unique characteristics of this legacy, specific aspects were examined and
connected to relevant moments from Svetislav Stančić’s own legacy.
Results. After the processing was completed, it was established that Pavica Gvozdić’s legacy in the Library of the Academy of Music consists of 440 printed musical works – primarily dedicated to solo piano – and several manuscripts. The legacy was examined through three key aspects that, in fact, reflect Pavica Gvozdić’s artistic contributions: her respect for Professor Svetislav Stančić, her commitment to performing the works of Croatian composers, and, as an overarching paradigm – a comprehensive piano repertoire.
Originality/value. The legacy of Pavica Gvozdić is presented here for the first time to the professional community, marking a significant contribution to a deeper understanding of the long and successful career of one of the most prominent Croatian pianists, as well as a key figure among pianists of the 20th century.
