Sažetak
Rudolf Cesarec was a long-standing professor of geometric courses at the Department
of Philosophy and Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Natural Sciences
and Mathematics at the University of Zagreb. His research included areas such as
non-Euclidean geometry, theory of algebraic curves and Riemannian geometry. He published
research papers in Glasnik matematički, in Radovi of the Yugoslav (Croatian)
Academy of Science and Art, JAZU (HAZU), and in French and German journals.
He also published professional and popular papers in the Croatian journals Nastavni
vjesnik and Matematički list. He was the Vice-Rector of the University of Zagreb from
1943 to 1945. Professor Cesarec was the editor for mathematics in all five volumes of
the Croatian Encyclopedia (Hrvatska enciklopedija) published from 1941 to 1945. The
new communist authorities sent him into retirement in 1945. The paper gives some less
known facts from the life of professor Cesarec regarding his relation with his brother
August, his correspondence with professor Vladimir Varićak and his participation at an
international conference in Rome in 1942. It lists all subjects in Hrvatska enciklopedija
whose author is Rudolf Cesarec. The authors describe his professional and scientific
work.
