Sažetak
Based on the thesis that the traditional distinction between the dramatic and the epic
no longer applies to many contemporary texts and that even in the past, narrative played
a greater role in drama than was commonly assumed in theory, this contribution analyzes
four scenic texts by the Croatian playwright Espi Tomičić: Ne zaboravi pokriti stopala
(2019), Stavi vodu za kavu (2020), Your Love is King (2021) i Tuđe topline (2024). The
guiding question is to what extent narrative techniques are used in these dramas and how the characters or voices are conceived as carriers of these character texts. Attention is paid to focalization, plot, and the relationship between the characters, but also to how information about the subject and contextualization is conveyed to the audience. While the first plays dispense with the function of stage directions (for spatial-temporal orientation, but also regarding character affiliation), the last play, Tuđe topline, returns to conventional formal dramatic techniques. It also introduces narrative authorities that have a special function in the drama (i.e. communicating directly with the characters) which usually do not appear in narrative texts. One part of the analysis is devoted to these new narrative authorities and their purpose and meaning in the text.
