Sažetak
The task of multimedia digital textbooks is to present content in a way that is optimal for better understanding and retention. Unlike traditional printed textbooks that contain text and images, multimedia digital textbooks can implement videos, audio recordings, animations, simulations, links to external content, games, knowledge tests, etc. A particular advantage lies in their interactivity, which has a motivating effect on students, encourages active learning, and contributes to the conceptual learning of natural science content. The aim of this paper is to identify the characteristics of multimedia digital textbooks for the subject Science and Social Studies in the fourth grade and to determine how much they comply with the principles for designing multimedia content. The purpose of the research is to determine which textbooks present content most effectively while respecting the cognitive abilities and developmental possibilities of students. A quantitative content analysis method was applied, and the results indicate high interactivity of the textbooks, numerous visual representations, spatial and temporal coherence of content, emphasis on key information, the possibility of controlling learning, and immediate feedback. Multimedia digital textbooks facilitate and enhance the understanding of scientific concepts because they enable the presentation of phenomena that are not visible to students, whether due to temporal or spatial distance. Using digital textbooks, students learn faster and easier, and they are active and curious. In the future, it is necessary to create tools and content that allow greater control over their own learning and better monitoring of student progress. Furthermore, the development of ICT and multimedia digital textbooks should also support distance learning and greater personalization of learning.
