Sažetak

ltis very difficult (if possible at all) to assess the present and future
technical and technological changes and their impact on
(un)employment, throughout the world, and especially here in Croatia.
Despite our awareness of constantly failing to keep pace with
technological development, technical and technological progress
is seldom the focus of more permanent attention, and even less
of social action. The speed of today' s technological changes will
create a surplus of certain types of knowledge and professions,
linked with diminishing needs for them, and at the same time it will
result in a lack of workers with specific knowledge necessary for
the acceptance and further development of new technologies.
Furthermore, it will enhance the appearance of new knowledge,
specialization and professions. For the successful acceptance of
new technologies, it is important to build an information system
which will warn in time against a deficiency in professionalism and
knowledge, indicate an increase or decrease in social needs for
certain professions, adapt education according to requirements of
the economy including the improvement of basic knowledge in order
to enhance the process of retraining and additional education
of workers. All societies incline towards achieving maximum economic
growth in which adequate education and retraining of the
active population play an important role in overcoming unprofessionalism,
insufficient mobility of both employers and employees.
Thus, in the process of adaptation, many unnecessary difficulties
would be avoided and opposition to new technologies crucial for
achieving greater production and faster economic development
would be reduced.
