Sažetak
The Dubrovnik Summer Festival was founded on the idea of staging old texts from the rich Croatian dramatic and literary heritage in historical sites. In the late 1950s, the most significant determinants of the Festival were defined: Croatian plays and literary heritage, as well as classics from around the world. A characteristic site specific performance code was developed at that time as well. In the last twenty years of the existence of the Festival, neither production nor artistic resources could respond to these two basic settings in a contemporary language. The question arises as to how to redefine the repertoire and erformative settings of the dramatic programme of one of the oldest Croatian festivals, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and whose history has been woven into Croatian culture through several segments. This paper deals with artistic, repertoire, and site-specific problems of the last twenty-five years of the drama programme, through specific examples of performances, providing a cross-section of the more relevant site-specific and repertoire achievements, as well as some less successful ones. The methodology of the work consisted of indicating the changes in characteristics of primarily site-specific performances in the last twenty-five years, in order to define recent problems, and to indicate possible solutions in upcoming, redefined program concepts.
