Sažetak
Domestic seed production plays a significant role in agricultural production, ensuring food security. The system for the recognition of new plant varieties of domestic and foreign selection in the Republic of Croatia from 2016 to 2025 recorded an increase in the number of varieties by 48.42%. The number of domestic selection varieties in the recognition process increased by an average of 3.70%. In the same period, an average of 34,997 t of domestic selection seeds, or 51.74%, was certified. The most common domestically selected plant species are winter wheat, winter barley, soybeans, corn, triticale (triticale) and spring barley. Certified quantities of domestically selected seed for the domestic market (Croatia and the EU) in the observed period decreased by 42.28% compared to the average, while certified quantities of domestically selected seed for export to third countries (OECD) increased by 35.76%. The results indicate a stable number of domestically selected varieties in the recognition of new plant varieties, changes in market orientation, reduced competitiveness of domestic varieties in the common market, and a change in market orientation towards exports.
