Abstract
The paper discusses the word forms that appear in Marulićʼs poems, and is based on three Marulićʼs famous verse works, Judith, Susanne and Prayer Against the Turks. It is known that Marko Marulićʼs literary language is based on chakavian foundations with the participation of kajkavian and štokavian elements and Croatian glagolitic heritage. So far, most of the discussion has been about Marulićʼs lexicon, in which, in addition to the basic chakavian basis, we find words from the kajkavian dialect, but also from the štokavian and church slavonic literary language. Marko Marulić often varied not only words, but also word forms. His poems are written in solemn, but also very complex verse, double-rhymed twelve-line, so Marulić could choose those grammatical forms from the Croatian language corpus that suits him best in terms of content, number of verses and syllables. The choice of words, morphology and syntax was mainly from the (Split) literary language of chakavian, but for the needs of complex verse, rhyme and expression of thought he also had a large selection of forms from Croatian medieval, mainly glagolitic literature and from the Croatian kajkavian and shtokavian language systems. Therefore, in selecting expressions that he considered Croatian, Marko Marulić did not stop only at the choice of words, but also at the form of words. Thus, many forms of declension and conjugation often appear in the same verse from the glagolitic heritage and from different Croatian linguistic stylizations (locative singular of nouns of the a-type, genitive and instrumental plural of nouns, frequent use of indefinite adjectives, 1st person singular present, adjective verbal form etc.).
