Sažetak

This paper describes the language of Josip Kozarac’s letters to his wife and daughter in 1897, 1900, 1902, and 1904 from Gleichenberg. The description is based on Josip Kozarac’s handwritten letters stored in the Vinkovci library. The language of these letters has not been described so far, but several letters were described as an appendix to Kozarac’s biography in Bogner’s work Kozarac’s Letters from Gleichenberg. This paper presents an exact transcription of the letters, without any changes, describing only the language – spelling, orthography, morphology, syntax, and lexis, based on the norms of Kozarac’s time, which means that Kozarac’s language is described with respect to the normative manuals of his time – the second half of the 19th century, which is the norm of the Zagreb philological school.
