Sažetak

Rapid aging is leading to a substantial increase in age-related disorders, particularly dementia. Dementia is a progressive neurocognitive disorder typified by a decline in memory, physical functions, speech, and social functioning, eventually impeding autonomy and quality of life. Mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety, and behavioral problems frequently coincide with dementia and complicate clinical treatment. These conditions are often underdiagnosed in the elderly as a result of overlap with other comorbidities and normal aging processes. Particular attention must be paid to multidisciplinary care models, prevention strategies, and essential early detection of cognitive disorders. Improving mental health care in the elderly is crucial for reducing disability, supporting caregivers, and addressing the increasing public burden regarding dementia.
