Mapping the Evolution of Learner Autonomy Research: A Bibliometric Investigation

Sažetak
Learner autonomy, vital in digital and globalized learning environments, offers personalized learning. This study aims to analyze the progress of research on learner autonomy from 1997 to 2024. It will evaluate a diverse collection of 811 documents from 385 academic journals and other publications. The analysis reveals a robust annual growth rate of 11,06%, indicating a growing significance of the field. The study is current and significant in academic discussions, with an average document age of 6,98 years and an average citation rate of 11,51 per document. Examining the text reveals a wide range of keywords, including 1073 Keywords Plus and 2 361 Author’s Keywords, which provide insight into different aspects of learner autonomy. Author collaboration is evident since 1426 individuals have contributed to 811 texts, including 305 works that a single person authored. Co-authorship is a prevalent practice globally, accounting for 12,45% of partnerships. On an average, each document has 1,98 writers. The document consists of many types of content, including book chapters, conference papers, and reviews. However, the majority of the content, totalling 580, is made up of articles. This study establishes a strong foundation for future academic research by encapsulating the fundamental publishing trends of learner autonomy and the growth and structure of research on learner autonomy, emphasizing its relevance in modern education. The study also highlights both quantitative growth and qualitative significance, stressing the need to advance understanding for more effective education and future research.
