Sažetak
The Audiovisual Department of the ”Ivan Goran Kovačić” Public Library in Karlovac celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2025. This article presents the founding of the Discotheque in 1965, founded on the model of the oldest such collection in Croatia – the Discotheque of the City Library of Zagreb’s Music department. It further traces its development over the decades, including its relocation to a newly constructed, purposebuilt building, where it first acquired its own space and operated as an independent Music Department, up to today’s Audiovisual Department. The aim of this paper is to present the entire historical development and progress of the former Discotheque and Music Department into the modern Audiovisual Department, and to analyze changes in the collection, services, and the Department’s role within the library. The research for this topic relied on professional literature, archival documentation of the library, local newspapers, library statistics, and available online sources.
