Sažetak

This study is grounded in the concept of school climate and in systems theory, which conceptualizes a system as a whole composed of interrelated components whose structure is manifested through spatial and temporal dimensions. Through the interaction of these components, new knowledge and information are generated; accordingly, a school may be understood as a complex system in which students, teachers, professional associates, parents, and the wider community collaboratively contribute to the attainment of educational objectives. The aim of the study was to gain insight into secondary school teachers’ perception of school climate in Slavonski Brod, as well as their assessments of the potential contribution of social workers to its improvement.
The research was conducted using semi-structured interviews with ten teachers, and the data was analysed employing thematic analysis. The findings indicate that teachers conceptualize school climate through their own professional experiences, their perceived role in shaping it, and their evaluations of the contribution of social workers. School climate was predominantly perceived as positive, with particular emphasis placed on a culture of collaboration, established support systems, supportive school administration, and partnership-based relationships between teachers and students.
Teachers identified their own contribution in the development of supportive relationships, open communication, and mutual respect. Social workers were recognized as significant stakeholders through their work with students, parents, and teachers particularly in the areas of education, preventive programming, and the early identification of emerging difficulties whereby they would function as a connecting link among various support systems.
