Intentions to enrol in formal lifelong learning programmes in Croatia: results of a survey of economics and business economics graduates

This study analyses intentions to enrol in formal postgraduate lifelong-learning programmes among graduates of economics and business economics in Croatia, considering previous study experience, self-determination, and available resources. A survey was conducted on a non-probability sample of 307 graduates from faculties of economics in Zagreb, Osijek, Rijeka, and Split. Descriptive statistics, frequency distributions, and Cronbach’s alpha were used. Respondents highly value personal development, previous study quality, study satisfaction, and self-determination. Interest in postgraduate education and the attractiveness of enrolment are moderate, whereas concrete future enrolment intention is lower (M = 3.64). Favourable time availability is reported by 55.4% and favourable financial availability by 53.1%. The findings distinguish general interest from concrete enrolment intention and indicate that a positive previous study experience alone does not ensure a return to formal education. Practical implications point to more flexible, modular, and work-compatible programmes.
