PERSONS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS Treatment of Special Needs in Schools and Other Environments

Sažetak
Invalid persons (persons with impairments and disorders) are
one of the largest groups in the population of persons with special
needs. According to data from specialized UN agencies
(WHO, UNESCO), about 10% of the population suffers from direct
consequences of handicap. On the other hand, 25% are indirectly
affected - if one considers their families, who are experiencing
problems because of their handicapped members.
Therefore, all countries should express interest for the problem,
Le. each of them should undertake certain measures for preventing,
alleviating or eliminating the consequences brought about by
such impairments or disorders. Care for invalid persons comprises,
among other, measures for fulfilling their special needs during
the process of education, by means of which their social integration
is best enhanced. Satisfactory fulfillment of invalid persons'
special needs calls for a clear definition of their contents when an
individual is concerned, as well as a relatively homogeneous
group of such persons. Timely detection of their needs, adequate
diagnostics and also the choice of a suitable program of education
and rehabilitation for such persons is required. The main issue
resides in achieving the above-mentioned - in what way can
we best take into consideration the fact that each of these persons
represents a unique biopsychosocial being, Le. how can we
apply an individualized approach in satisfying the special needs
of each and every person.
