Sažetak

Research on seasonal variability of fruit and seed of Ruscus hypoglossum L. was carried out during the four years in two cultivated populations, Rakov Potok near the town Samobor and Pharmaceutical Botanical Garden "Fran Kušan" in Zagreb. The following traits were analyzed: length (D), width (Š) and weight (m) of fruits and seeds. Also, the ratio between length and width of fruit, as well as seed, was calculated to get an insight into the shape of fruit and seed. The biggest fruits were in 2004. in Rakov Potok population (D = 19.14 mm; Š = 17.62; m = 1.22 g), and in 2005. in Pharmaceutical Botanical Garden population (D = 12.58 mm; Š = 11.59 mm; m = 0.79 g). The average number of seeds per fruit was from 1.51 to 1.64 in Rakov Potok population, and from 1.33 to 1.64 in Pharmaceutical Botanical Garden population. The least variable trait was the ratio between length and width of fruit (or fruit shape). The fruit weight was the most variable trait, but the seasonal variability for this traits was relatively small in both populations. The results show that successful selection of individual plant and/or populations as regard the fruit shape and size could be expected.
