Sažetak

In this article we have investigated the influence of the sociodemographic variables on the musical preferences of the first and the fourth grades secondary school pupils. Rely upon LeBlanc’s
model of the musical preferences (1981), we have selected variables
such as gender, type of the school, age, school achievement
and parent’s qualification, and we have investigated their influence
on the preferences and familiarity of the selected musical
fragments, which belong to art, popular and world music. The
results confirm the influence of the selected variables on musical
preferences and familiarity with musical styles, and correlation
between familiarity and preferences of musical styles. In regard of general orientation of subject’s musical preferences toward
popular music, the authors suggest the possibility of the expanding
the music curriculum, by inclusion of popular and world music.
