Sažetak
White Nettle by N. Iveljić is a novelistic biography of Croatian painter
Slava Raškaj, whose personality and life are brightened by oppinions of the diverse speaking subjects who are trying to realize her destiny, thinking about the sense of art at the same time. It is a polydiscursive biography composed of the next presentation layers: 1. novelistic biographical story by mediation of the multiplied speakers (fictional statements), 2. fragments of tradition, superstitions and legends as the origins and the final explanation of existence, 3. verses of poem, 4. short, already published prose work of N. Iveljić, 5. clips of art critique with precise bibliographic
information, 6. explanation of the author's own writing and the attractive power of theme and 7. illusion in which Slava talks to the author. The book is fictional attempt of the author's entry into personality of Slava and other "sisters" artists (D. Jarnević, I.
Brlić-Mažuranić). The biography ends with illusion in which Slava appears as the own alter ego of N. Iveljić and ironizes her attachment based on emphasis of the weakness of artist as a fragile female being. The illusion is actually unpublished radio
play of N. Iveljić. She "revenged herself" to those who refused publish it by its incorporation into biography and also showed that position of the female artist is hard in all times, but not insuperable.
