AGRONOMIC PERFORMANCES OF NEW EARLIER SOYBEAN VARIETIES

Sažetak
According to the requests of wide production for domestic earlier soybean
varieties by high genetic yield potential, the breeding work on soybean in the
Agricultural Institute Osijek is aimed to the development of soybean germplasm
demanded features. From the large work is developed more early varieties, and in this
work is given the review of the agronomic performances of two new earlier soybean
varieties 'Korana' and 'Lucija'. These varieties are developed from the diverse crosses
and derived from the hybrid populations in F4 generation. According to the length of
growth period, new varieties belong to 00 maturity group, in addition have an
indeterminate growth habit, purple flowers, brown pubescence, yellow seed with brown
hilla in 'Korana' and grey hilla in 'Lucija'. On the base of the test performed so far of
exact comparing of the elite lines with standards over field trials which conducted on
the selection filed of the Agricultural Institute Osijek in period from 2000 to 2002 year, as well as trials of the Commission for Varieties Recognition of Republic of Croatia
conducted in more environments, 'Korana' and 'Lucija' possess high agronomic values.
The main features of both varieties are earliness, high and stable yield potential
(especially variety 'Lucija') with satisfying grain quality regarding to protein and oil
content and oil quality, further high resistance to lodging as well as satisfying
resistance to principal soybean diseases. Varieties possess all the prerequisites to
become wide-grown varieties in the all soybean growing region in Croatia, and the first
results from the wide production confirm their high agronomic values. Generally, the
obtained results indicate on achieved genetic advance in yielding within 00 maturity
group.
