Abstract

A correlation is presented between the crystalline structure of
monolayers and multilayers of a,co-alkanediols HO-(CH2)„-OH (n =
16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 30) at the air-water interface and their function as ice nucleators. Structural elucidation was carried out by the following methods; grazing incidence X-ray diffraction, scanning force microscopy, cryo-transmission electron microscopy and external reflection Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy.
