The twilight of Standard Languages? A glance at Scots

Abstract

Recent developments in the promotion of Scots as a standard language are reviewed. The progress is assessed that was made since the appeals that were made in the seventies for governmental provision to preserve the languages of Scotland. An outlook on future scenarios is attempted.
