Abstract

The author presents to the professional public an article dealing with the participation of the Czech minority in the struggle for freedom and against fascism in the former Yugoslavia in the Second World War. This topic has recently been relegated to the
end of interest. The struggle of the peoples of the former Yugoslavia for liberation from German occupation in 1941-1945 is an integral part of history and cannot be forgotten. In 2023, we commemorate the 80 th anniversary of the establishment of the first Czechoslovak independent partisan unit. However, the Czechs did not fight only in national units, but were also involved in other units that were formed throughout the territory of the former Yugoslavia. Among the Czech fighters, personalities who cannot be forgotten stood out. They were Josef Vojáček, Josef Růžička, Antonín Doležal. The latter two fell at the head of their soldiers in battle. They were not alone. About 7,000 members of the Czech minority took part in the fighting and several hundred of them died. The author deals with the issue of the Czech and Slovak minorities living in the former Yugoslavia
for a long time.
