Abstract

We present a systematic calculation of the nonleptonic effective weak Hamiltonian based on the Weinberg-Salam model containing four or six quarks. We write out explicitly and discuss the following sectors of the effective weak Hamiltonian: the ∆ S = 1, ∆ C = 0 sector (including C P violation), the parity-violating ∆ S = 0, ∆ C = 0 sector and the ∆ S = 1, ∆ C = 1 sector. Our presentation includes a simple rule for the calculation of quantum-chromodynamics renormalisation effects when flavour-symmetry breaking is considered. We also discuss the theoretical foundation of quantum-chromodynamics corrections and experimental consequences.
