The development of pedagogy as the scientific and teaching discipline in Croatia

Abstract
This historical paper gives a review of pedagogical training, studies and the development of pedagogy as science at the University of Zagreb and in Croatia. It covers the beginnings of teachings in pedagogy within the philosophical studies, systematic pedagogical training of secondary school teachers at the Pedagogical Seminar at the Faculty of Philosophy (1896–1928); study of pedagogy and pedagogical training of students of the 30th study group at the Faculty of Philosophy (1928–1946); teaching and scientific pedagogical activities at the Institute for Pedagogy (1946–1960), Department and Division for Pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy (1960–1991). On the parallel level the paper also highlights the establishment and activities of the University Center for Pedagogical Education and Research (1971–1981). At the end of the paper a review is given of the present state of pedagogical training, pedagogical studies and scientific activities at five Croatian universities.
