Abstract

The article focuses on two issues relevant for the Mediterranean
anthropology. The first issue is unity and diversity, and the second
issue concerns rural/urban, coast/hinterland relationship. Both
issues are discussed on the example of the Dubrovnik Republic in the
15th and 16th century and on the basis of literary material from that
period. The aim is to illuminate relevant complexity, ambiguity,
contradictions and the dialectic of the community and time under
research.
