Abstract

The Music School Ivan Matetic Ronjgov in Pula has introduced an elective course in Traditional Istrian Music within the project of Local Heritage Education initiated by the Istria County – Regione Istriana. The course consists of listening, analysis and practical performance of the first and second traditions and hybrid musical styles. The aim of the course is to encourage creativity and critical thinking about traditional music as a living practice. Students pointed out that the course provided them with better understanding Istrian dialects, music and dances, which contributes to the preservation of local cultural identity.
