Abstract

Total knee arthroplasty is a surgical procedure which is usually indicated in cases
of severe osteoarthritis associated with knee pain, which is unmanageable using nonsurgical methods.
Although total knee arthroplasty is a well-established treatment modality, it still has several complications
which can lead to catastrophic result; implant fracture is one of them. In this case report,
we described the case of a 74-year old female who presented with a rare complication of total knee
arthroplasty — tibial component fracture. We also presented potential causes and treatment options
for such complicated cases.
