Abstract

Focused on the notion of concetto, one of the most relevant notions in the 16th and the 17th centuries, this paper aims to examine to which extent Petrić’s understanding of concetto draws him to the manneristic and baroque art theory. The comparison of Petrić’s – here unavoidable – works Le rime di messer Luca Contile, divise in tre parti, con discorsi, et argomenti di m. Francesco Patritio, et m. Antonio Borghesi (1560), Della retorica dieci dialoghi (1562), Della Poetica (1586) with the representative manneristic and baroque treatises discussiong visual arts and poetitry theories, in the first place the L’ idea de’ pittori, scultori, et architetti (1607) by Federico Zuccaro, the shorter treatise Del Concetto Poetico by Camillo Pellegrino and the comprehensive treatise Il cannocchiale aristotelico (1654) by Emanuele Tesauro, the most important representative of baroque poetics, shows that that the theories of these art theoreticians contain Petrić’s basic teaching that consuders art as creation.
