Abstract

The Catechism in the state school programme is an important duty of the Church. In elementary and high schools of Republic of Croatia it is carried out by qualified catechists which, together with an appropriate qualification have also an attestation of the canonical mandate (missio canonica) issued by the diocesan bishop. The revocation of the canonical mandate is a direct deprivation of the right to teach Catechism in educational system. The catechists are members of the teachers college, but their specificity is in their mission, given to them by the Church, aiming to the transmission of faith to the young generations. Every catechist has the responsibility for this mission, but the co-responsibility of all the factors in education and upbringing is also of vital importance, since the quality of work
depends on the quality of the mutual relationship of all educational subjects. The personal testimony of a Christian life is fundamental. But, the new models in education demand from all teachers and educators new methods in teaching, and that is expected from catechists too, pertaining to the field of faith and testimony.
