Abstract

Influence of vegetation season and plant density to percentage of Swiss chard seed
fraction was investigated during three vegetation seasons. Trials was done on Swiss
chard variety Srebrnolisna in the region of Podravina in Croatia. Percentage of three
seed fractions was analyzed, seeds <3,5 mm, seeds from 3,5 to 5,5 mm and seeds > 5,5
mm.
Percentage of some seed fractions was by significant influence of vegetation
season. Increasing plant density from 100.000 plants ha-1 to 150.000 plants ha-1 resulted by increasing percentage of seed fraction <3,5 mm and desirable seed fraction from 3,5
to 5,5 mm. Higher plan density decreasing percentage of the big seed fraction > 5,5
mm.
Swiss chard is a plant which in seed production very good compensate lower plant
density by producing seed of bigger fractions.
