Abstract
Performance evaluation in libraries is one of the crucial management tools which enables library managers to gather information necessary for decision-making. Another important aspect of library evaluation is the presentation of results to the general public. Performance measurement has been conducted in public libraries worldwide for years, and there is plenty of practical literature on the subject. This paper presents two important works: ISO 11620:2008 standard and a practical handbook entitled Measuring Quality published by IFLA in 2007. Several good practice projects from EU countries are also listed. The paper aims to explain basic concepts and issues in performance measurement in public libraries and to review the current situation in public libraries in Croatia.
