Abstract

Starting from established theory and practice in the Croatian educational system, as well as in our scientific and professional literature, where only subject methodology, i.e. the methodology of a particular subject, is discussed, the author, drawing on contemporary methodological literature, provides arguments for speaking about teaching methodology in general, without additional mention of the particular subject. He sees it as the central postulate of teacher education and distinguishes it both from the methodology of a particular profession and subject methodology, by defining it as systematic consideration of theory and practice of teaching in order to improve the educational process. Consequently, without rejecting existing practice, he ushers in a new practice for which there is a need, as well as sufficient theoretical and practical support in scientific literature.
