Abstract

Physical activity is one of the main factors that effect people’s health condition and lifetime. Numerous studies have already proved that what negatively affects its level is a complex combination of individual, cultural, socio-economic, environmental and other factors which themselves are in mutual interaction. This work tries to identify the connection between particular types of sedentary behavior and some forms of physical activity, including the relations between certain stratification factors with some forms of physical activity. 62 participants – students of the first, second and third year of sociology from the Faculty of Philosophy in Split were surveyed. The connection between the mentioned variables has been explored by means of Spearman’s correlation coefficient and the chi-square test. A significant correlation between variables ‘’monthly income of a family’’ and ‘’time spent roller-skating and/or cycling’’ has been found, and between variables ‘’watching TV/DVD’’ and ‘’time spent exercising’’ the opposite connection has been established. Also, it has been found out that men spend more time on-line, i.e. in front of the computer.
