Abstract

This paper deals with the main sailing routes in the Adriatic Sea, their characteristics as well as their selection by crews of the merchant ships. As the main ports in the Adriatic Sea are placed on it northwestern part special attention will be given to the main longitudinal traffic direction, i.e. longitudinal sailing routes between the main northwestern Adriatic ports and the Strait of Otranto. Transversal sailing routes are less significant due to less traffic, also their formation is simple. Due to the possibility of formation of different sailing routes on the main longitudinal direction some recommendations in the selection of these routes will be offered.
