Abstract

The paper investigates head teachers and their functions and activities in school. Particular attention is paid to the function of motivating employees by the head teacher of the school.
The basic research problem is related to the frequency of use of certain motivators and demotivators in the work of head teachers with respect to gender, the level of education and work experience in school.
The instrument which was used to investigate head teachers’ implementation of motivators and demotivators was constructed using a previously tested list in which teachers were asked to name what activities in the work of their head teacher they found motivating or demotivating for their own work.
The results show that the assessed head teachers generally used multiple motivators in their work. It is also evident from the research that there are differences in the frequency of use of certain demotivators and motivators in the work of head teachers with respect to gender, the level of education and length of service of the head teacher.
