"GIMNAZIJSKA PEDAGOGIKA" BY FRANJO MARKOVIĆ - FIRST TEXT ON CROATIAN ACADEMIC METHODOLOGY

Abstract
Franjo Marković (1845-1914) was a renowned Croatian author, philosopher, secondary-school teacher of classical languages, and the first professor of pedagogy at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. He taught pedagogy as part of the philosophy course of study. His written legacy, which is kept in the Croatian Academy of Science and Arts and has not so far been published, contains his pedagogy manuscript, which features a text entitled Gimnazijska pedagogika. This manuscript has all the features of a text on the methodology of teaching classical languages. Since Markoviæ was the first university professor in Croatia to write such a manuscript for the needs of teaching at university, the conclusion may be drawn that his Gimnazijska pedagogika is the first text on Croatian academic ethodology.
