Abstract

On a sample of 133 boys and girls of preschool and early school age the characteristics of sprint running every five meters on a section of 50 metres and the start reaction time have been determined by means of electronic measuring. The obtained results show that the start reaction time, the start phase and start acceleration become shorter with a higher chronological age of the examinees. The speed curve rom the 10th to the 25th metre shows that threeyear-
olds achieve maximum speed in the segment between the 10th and the 15th metre, whereas four-, five-, six-, seven- and ten- year-olds achieve maximum speed between the 15th and the 20th metre. Eight- and nine-year-olds achieve maximum speed between the 20th and the 25th metre.
