Central Europe - approaching a concept
Karl Ruppert
Abstract
The creation of the European Union, the fall of the communist systems, the break-up of multinational states and the appearance od new independent states have brought Europe to a new stage of relations between states and groups of states. As a result of such changes, the discussion on the concept of Central Europe has been resurrected and strengthened after being almost forgotten. In this article K.Rupert provides a short but illustrative overwiev of various conceptions, past and present, and outlines his idea, based on the actual criteria of structural and spatial realtions.
