EVALUATION OF REGULATORY CONDITIONS IN THE RETAIL DISTRIBUTION IN CROATIA AND SOME EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

Abstract
Th e goal of the paper is to assess regulatory conditions of retail distribution performance in Croatia using structural indicators compiled by OECD methodology that given results could be compared with secondary data appurtenant to several European
countries. Factors of market reforms were theoretically examined thereby modern taxonomy of product market regulation with emphasis on forms and eff ects of regulation in retail distribution. Legal regulation framework in distribution industry in Croatia was bring up using formal aspect. Further on the research methodology is examined which is aft erwards used for exploration of three measures categories within regulatory framework of retail distribution: barriers to entry, operational restrictions and price
control. Th e contribution is set throughout consideration of each indicator to competitiveness, operational effi ciency and general functioning of retail in timespan from 1998. till 2008. apropos 2011. Th ere are signifi cant changes identifie within regulatory framework
in Croatia and other European countries concerned. It is proved that conditions in categories such as barriers to entry and operation restrictions are becoming more liberal as is also trend in examined transition economies and majority of other European
countries.
