Abstract

Transportation of different species and sediments is becoming one of the most significant threats to marine ecosystems, biodiversity and even human health. For the long period of time the ship ballast water has been considered as clean, therefore causing no potential harm to the environment. Possible solution of the problem that occurs with transportation of species through ballast water could be ballast water treatment. With implementation of primary treatment methods efficient separation of species and particles is being provided. In this paper different ships and shore methods for primary treatment of ships' ballast water, based on centrifugal and gravity principles, are analysed.
