Abstract

The second part of the article rises the question of Upper palaeolithic navigators' use of the constellation Corona Borealis for determining the North celestial pole. I also describe navigational techniques of Pacific navigators, some of which could also be used in prehistory, and some simple astronomical instruments for determining the altitude of stars. I also consider the use of so-called last circumpolar stars for determining latitude in the Mediterranean area.
