Abstract
Herbal substancesare developed by conversion of the substance themselves in the course of the plant growth process. They are stored in different parts of the plant. Nevertheless, not all substances
created in this way possess healing character. In this Paper it has been presented a group of saponins which, in regard toaglycone part, are divided intriterpen, steroidand steroid-alkaloid. Saponins are bipolar compounds possessing characteristics of emulsifier and hemolytic (membrane) activity which might lead to damage of the red blood cells membrane. In case that larger amount of saponins comes to human or animal organism, through hemolysis, different types of poisoning may occur. Number of herbal medicines containing saponins foster diuretic activity, stimulates reduction of edemas and have anti-inflammatory effects. Scientific researches show that saponins from the plant Solidagogigantea (goldenrod), in comparison
to the other plants, have very accentuated diuretic, anti-inflammatory and spasmolytic effects. Drug is being prepared in the form of tee and it is mostly used in case of inflammation of urinary tract, presence of kidney stones, and as preventive tool against creation of the later.
