Abstract

Sustainable development is a complex change process that relies on establishing a balance between achieving economic benefits, social progress and environmental concerns of current and future generations. The primary role of business in the contemporary society is that their activities generate profit, but also provide a benefit to the community with the inclusion of the principles of sustainable development in all its operations. Implementing basic principles of sustainable development
in the food industry opens a whole range of options for progress in a so-cially responsible, environmentally acceptable and economically rational manner. This paper researches to which extent and in what manner the basic approach to
implementing the principles of sustainable development is conducted, and the presented conclusions are supported by the results of research into various practices. The aforementioned shows if and to what extent the implementation of the principles of sustainable development are performed at the overall level of food industry firms in the town of Karlovac.
