Abstract

The past and present of the Church give enough evidence that it also
has always been the Church of martyrs. In this work the author analyzes theology of martyrdom starting from the suffering testimony of Jesus Christ. Then he analyzes various testimonies about the persecution of prophets and the righteous in the Old Testament, as well as the testimonies about the martyrdom after Christ. In the second part the author brings an overview of different perceptions of martyrdom in the course of Christian theology.
