Abstract

In spite of the rather diverse, rich in content and spatially diversified basis regarding resources and attractions (thermal water sources in Daruvar; gentle hillsides of Bilogora, Moslavačka gora, Ravna gora and Papuk; richness of freshwater areas; forests rich in game; big farming areas; multiculturalism; and a considerable number of events with only regional and local character), practically none of the products of the Bjelovar-Bilogora County tourism – with a partial exception of hunting tourism – either experienced systematic development or was adequately presented to the potential public in the past. Wishing for the betterment of this state, the Bjelovar-Bilogora County and the Tourist Board of the Bjelovar-Bilogora County have had the tourist master plan of the County drafted, as well as a document by which the key developmental projects, aimed at adding dynamism to the development of tourism and advancing the financial aspects of tourism in this area, have been precisely identified. Unfortunately, the conclusions of these strategically important documents have still not been implemented. In this paper, the attempt was made to make the reasons for this situation understood and to propose a way to move the existing state from the “deadlock”.
