Abstract
Tending to media discourses about a recent gentrification
project in Zagreb, the author has attempted to explore the
relationship between place, identity and gender. What made this issue particularly interesting were the discourses that legitimized the project, which consistently countered the discussion about the pitfalls
of gentrification with narratives about values, national interests
and the importance of leaving the socialist past behind. The analysis of those discourses also addresses their potential gender aspect, which is discussed in relation as to how and through which means, places can be considered as gendered.
